Speaker 1:

Hello and welcome to Rise and Thrive, your weekly inspirational message from Reignite Resilience. I'm Pam Cass and today I wanted to read you something and then unpack it a little bit. This is something that I read last week and it just really stuck with me and I thought it would be a great message for this week, and you'll have an action item at the end as well. So here it goes. Self-protection is learning how to take a pause between what you feel and how you react. When there is no awareness between what you perceive and the way that you respond, anything can control you. Practice the pause. Widen the space between what you sense and what you do about it. Decide what's worth your energy, because what you engage with is what you empower. Let me read that last line again Decide what's worth your energy, because what you engage with is what you empower. Wow. So that comes from this amazing book called the Pivot Year. It was recommended by a coach and a wonderful friend and when I read that passage it kind of sparked a lot of different things, and one of the things was is the idea of spending energy on things we have talked about the reticular activating system. We've talked about what you focus on, expands, and that very much is in alignment with this. So if we are focusing our energy on negative things, it's going to empower it. It's going to make it bigger. So what would happen if we focused on positive things? Well, it's going to make those things bigger. So the reason I thought this was perfect is because we're in election year and with every election year, you know what's going to happen. We are going to be bombarded on both sides with negative messaging.

Speaker 1:

So practice the pause. That's your action item this week. Practice the pause in any situation. Somebody cuts you off, somebody's rude to you. Before you respond, before you react, practice the pause and then focus on what you want to put your energy into, because remember where you put your energy, you're going to empower it. So let's make sure the things that we're empowering are the things that are positive and the things that we want. So I'm excited to see how this works in your life this week. Hopefully this was inspirational. Hopefully this gives you something to focus on and to practice. So practice that pause and remember to always stay strong, stay resilient and always rise and thrive. Until next time, I'm Pam Cass and we will see you soon. Take care, guys.
